The International Congress of Traumatologists and Orthopedists of Turkic-Speaking Countries, organized with the aim of developing scientific and practical cooperation in the healthcare sector among Turkic-speaking countries, was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The congress, held on September 4–5, was organized within the framework of cooperation between the Azerbaijan Orthopedic Society (AOC), the Turkish Society of Traumatology and Orthopedics (TOTBİD), and the Union of Traumatologists and Orthopedists of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKOT). The main objective of the congress was not only to establish a common scientific perspective across the Turkic world, but also to promote the use of the Turkish language as a language of medicine and science in academic research.
More than 500 specialists from 6 countries gathered in Baku
More than 500 medical specialists from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), as well as from the United States, Germany, Russia, North Macedonia, Greece and Bulgaria, participated in the congress.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Aydin Kahramanov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Orthopedic Society, noted that the congress reflected the solidarity and common will of specialists across the Turkic world, stating: “Alongside being an important scientific event, our congress represents the common will of traumatologists and orthopedists of the Turkic world toward the global community. This meeting will lay the foundation for the Turkic orthopedic community to launch new joint scientific research projects in the future.”
Akhliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Health Committee of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, and Birol Akgün, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Baku, also noted in their speeches that the event would contribute to achieving the objectives outlined in the Organization of Turkic States’ Vision 2040 and that Baku is becoming an important scientific center of the Turkic world.
New Opportunities in Medicine: Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology
During the congress sessions, the latest developments in orthopedics and traumatology, advanced surgical techniques, and the training of young physicians were extensively discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on robotic surgery, AI-assisted diagnostic methods, and biotechnology-based treatment protocols using the patient’s own tissues.
Speaking about the importance of biotechnological approaches at the event, Kadir Gökbakan, CEO of Greentech Biotechnology, stated: “Biotechnology is a treatment protocol based entirely on the patient’s own biological nature and cells. We offer natural treatment opportunities using tissues obtained from the patient’s own blood, umbilical fat, or bone marrow without the use of chemical substances.”
An international memorandum on mutual cooperation among healthcare organizations in the Turkic world was also signed during the congress. The event featured panel discussions and technical presentations and successfully concluded its work on September 5.
