The Azerbaijani Parliament has ratified the agreement on strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan in the field of green energy development and transfer, Vestnik Kavkaza reports.

The bill was passed in the first reading. The matter was discussed on February 3 at the first plenary session of the spring session of the Azerbaijani Parliament. The agreement sets its sights on laying the groundwork for fresh strategic partnerships in the energy arena. The main goal of the agreement is to promote the development of green energy in line with the greenhouse gas reduction targets set by the Paris Climate Agreement.

The parties will collaborate in the production, transfer, and trade of renewable energy sources, supporting the introduction of green hydrogen and green ammonia technologies.

Director of the Caspian Barrel Oil Research Center Ilham Shaban in a conversation with the correspondent of “Vestnik Kavkaza” told about the directions in which Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to develop cooperation in the production and transportation of green energy.

"In November 2023 in Baku, an agreement was reached on the possibility of considering a project to unite the energy systems of the three countries. In May 2024, an intergovernmental agreement was signed, and within the framework of this document, the governments of the countries defined the directions in which their cooperation will be promoted. The main point is the supply of green energy from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan along the Caspian Sea bed to Azerbaijan and further to Europe," Ilham Shaban said.

Ilham Shaban reminded how much attention Azerbaijan pays to green energy. "Azerbaijan has already stated that by 2028 up to 30% of the energy balance will be the share of green energy. At present, i.e. at the end of 2024, it occupies 14%. By 2030, its share will rise to 35%. Azerbaijan has assumed obligations under the Paris Agreement and will fulfill them by the scheduled date," Ilham Shaban said.
