Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu in the capital Astana.
Nurtleu and Bayramov, after holding face-to-face talks and a meeting of delegations, signed an action plan for 2025-2026 between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
After the meeting, the ministers held a joint press conference. Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nurtleu said that they have similar positions with Azerbaijan on international agenda issues and said: “There are no unresolved issues between our countries.”
Noting that the volume of trade between the two countries has increased 5 times in recent years, Nurtleu said: “In 2024, the volume of mutual trade amounted to 533 million dollars. At the meeting, we agreed to increase this value to 1 billion dollars.”
Nurtleu said they are ready to increase grain exports to Azerbaijan and said: “We agreed on joint investment projects. Currently, 1,518 companies with Azerbaijani capital operate in Kazakhstan. Thus, Azerbaijan has entered the top ten in the ranking of countries that have opened the largest number of companies in our country.”
In addition, Nurtleu noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea is strategic in nature and is carried out as follows:
“We are working together to increase the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor. Last year the volume of cargo transported through the Caspian Sea reached 4.5 million tons. In the future, we intend to increase it to 10 million tons.”
Nurtleu noted that they also successfully cooperate with Azerbaijan in supplying Kazakh energy resources to foreign markets: “We plan to increase the volume of Kazakh oil supplied to foreign markets through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline from 1.4 million tons to 2.2 million tons per year”.
Nurtleu thanked Azerbaijan for support in transportation of natural uranium through the Caspian Sea and emphasized the importance of implementation of transportation of Kazakh energy resources through the Caspian Sea.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov also thanked the government and people of Kazakhstan for their support after a passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines traveling from the capital Baku to Grozny crashed near the Kazakh Aktau city on December 25, 2024.
Noting that brotherhood, common language, traditions and culture unite the Azerbaijani and Kazakh peoples, Bayramov said the two countries have relations based on mutual respect and trust established by the heads of state.
Bayramov said they also appreciated cooperation within various international and regional organizations, especially the Organization of Turkic States, and praised initiatives to strengthen the role of the organization in the international arena.
Noting that the “action plan” signed today covers cooperation between the two countries in multifaceted fields, Bayramov said: “We should increase the potential of our economic cooperation. In this context, the expansion of cooperation on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, which is an integral part of the Central Corridor, and the construction of a fiber-optic line from the bottom of the Caspian Sea will give dynamism to our relations.”
