Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to cooperate in the field of shipbuilding. This was announced following the talks between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ilham Aliyev held on July 2 in Baku.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the heads of state adopted the decision of the second session of the High Interstate Council. A number of bilateral agreements were also signed. Among the signed documents is a protocol on cooperation in the fields of maritime transport and shipbuilding.
It is worth noting that in 2024, a joint project for the production of ferries to meet Uzbekistan’s needs was announced. The estimated cost of this project is $150 million. The parties may also establish a joint enterprise to develop freight transportation via the Trans-Caspian route.
Ilham Aliyev also proposed cooperation in sea freight transportation, especially in the context of the ongoing construction of the “China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan” railway.
