Renewable energy sources accounted for 88.1% of the net increase in Turkey's installed electricity generation capacity between June 2025 and June 2026, according to calculations by Anadolu Agency based on data from the country's Energy Market Regulatory Authority.
Turkey's total installed electricity capacity increased from 119,740 MW to 126,113 MW, representing a rise of approximately 6,373 MW. Of this increase, 5,613 MW came from renewable energy. Renewable energy capacity reached 78,808 MW, while its share of total installed capacity rose from 61.1% to 62.5%.
The main drivers of growth were solar and wind energy. Solar capacity increased from 23,573 MW to 27,210 MW, while wind capacity rose from 13,476 MW to 15,281 MW. Together, these two sources accounted for around 97% of the increase in renewable capacity and 85.4% of the country's total net increase in electricity capacity.
Solar energy became Turkey's second-largest source of installed capacity, after hydropower. At the end of June, hydropower capacity stood at 32.3 GW, solar at 27.2 GW and wind at 15.3 GW. The combined capacity of hydropower, solar and wind reached 74.8 GW, or around 59% of Turkey's total installed electricity capacity.
The increase in capacity was also reflected in electricity generation. Total electricity generation rose from 171.3 TWh to approximately 174.8 TWh, while generation from renewable sources increased from 81.3 TWh to 107.5 TWh, a 32.3% rise. The share of renewables in total electricity generation increased from 47.4% to 61.5%.
Hydropower made the largest contribution. Hydropower generation increased by 67.9% to approximately 57 TWh, accounting for 32.6% of total generation. Wind power generation reached around 21.5 TWh, while solar generation reached 18.3 TWh. Unlicensed generation facilities also played a significant role in capacity growth. Their installed capacity increased by approximately 3,292 MW to 25,239 MW, with solar energy accounting for 96.7% of this capacity. Turkey's positive balance in electricity trade also strengthened. Net electricity exports increased by 45.5%, reaching approximately 1.426 million MWh.
