Turkish authorities intend to produce about 1 million electric cars per year. As Report reports with reference to TRT Haber, this was announced by the President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“We are launching a package of measures to stimulate the production of electric cars worth $5 billion to increase their production per year to 1 million units,” Erdogan said.

He recalled that in early July, Turkey signed an agreement worth over $1 billion with the world's largest electric car manufacturer, China's BYD. “Our negotiations with other companies continue. All this is just the beginning,” the Turkish president noted.

The agreement with BYD envisages the opening of a plant in Turkey with a capacity of 150,000 electric and hybrid cars per year.
