Turkey has announced one of the most significant developments in the energy sector in recent years. As a result of 49 days of drilling at the Göktepe-3 well in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea, a new natural gas reserve of 75 billion cubic meters has been discovered.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the estimated value of the newly discovered reserve is approximately 30 billion USD. Preliminary assessments suggest that this amount could meet Turkey’s domestic demand for 3.5 years.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that development efforts in the area will be accelerated, and the goal is to start industrial-scale production as soon as possible. The new discovery is expected to significantly reduce Turkey’s energy import costs and further strengthen its position as a regional energy player.

Bayraktar also emphasized that the discovery at Göktepe-3 once again proves the Black Sea’s energy potential and reflects the progress Turkey has made in its energy infrastructure.
