ANKARA – June 2, 2025

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in Turkey have seen a significant surge in recent months, fueled by government incentives, the launch of domestic brand Togg, and the rapid expansion of charging infrastructure.

According to data from UK-based independent research organization New AutoMotive, Turkey has become one of the world’s ten largest electric vehicle markets.

In April 2025, global EV sales reached a record 977,000 units — the highest April figure on record — marking a 29% increase year-on-year. China accounted for 68% of these sales, while the United States followed with 10%. In Europe, Germany sold 45,354 EVs, France 25,882, the UK 24,053, Belgium 12,469, and Turkey 11,173.

Norway, the Netherlands, and Denmark followed with 10,942, 9,661, and 9,561 EVs sold, respectively.

Battery electric vehicles have maintained a market share above 10% for eight consecutive months. In April, Turkey led among Mediterranean countries, surpassing Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Greece in EV sales.

Over the past 12 months, Turkey outpaced Norway in total EV sales and is expected to surpass the Netherlands in the coming months. The Netherlands recorded 129,560 EV sales during this period, while Turkey reported 123,982 — ranking it as the world’s 8th largest EV market.

Turkey saw its all-time highest monthly EV sales in December 2024, with 17,894 units sold, placing it 6th globally for that month.

“We Expect Growth to Continue”

Commenting on Turkey’s performance, New AutoMotive CEO Ben Helmes said the country’s EV market is experiencing “an impressive rise” and has become a notable growth story in the European automotive sector.

“This momentum is largely driven by proactive government support, the successful launch and consumer adoption of domestic brands like Togg, and the ongoing development of charging infrastructure,” Helmes said.

“With this solid foundation, combined with an increasing variety of EV models and recent hikes in fuel prices, we expect strong growth in Turkey’s EV market to continue in the coming months and years,” he added.
