The 5th Meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held in Türkiye. The meeting addressed current energy cooperation among member and observer countries as well as prospective joint projects for the future.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov emphasized that the OTS is a strategic priority for Azerbaijan, noting that a significant share of joint investments is concentrated in the energy sector. He stated that the Azerbaijan–Türkiye energy partnership plays a key role in regional and European energy security, and that projects such as Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan, TANAP, and the Southern Gas Corridor, along with the “Green Energy Corridor,” will interconnect the electricity systems of Turkic countries.
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Energy Ilyas Bakytzhan announced that the goal is to develop medium-term cooperation in renewable energy, fossil fuels, nuclear energy security, hydrogen energy, and digital transformation. He invited all parties to cooperate on joint energy projects.
OTS Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev noted that sustainable energy security can be ensured through the development of energy lines, interconnected systems, and transmission infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of establishing an energy market within the OTS.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov stated that the “Green Energy Corridor” project being implemented with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is strategically important for exporting renewable energy to Europe, and expressed support for the participation of Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan in the process. He advocated the establishment of a common energy market and a green transmission consortium within the OTS.
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy Taalaybek Ibrayev highlighted the strategic importance of energy cooperation, stating that low-carbon growth, energy security, and new technologies are priority areas. He recalled that a decision had been made to establish a regional center within the OTS focused on technology and green initiatives.
TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu noted that energy cooperation under the OTS strengthens the shared vision of the Turkic world, adding that the TRNC has significant potential in the energy sector.
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto stressed that energy supply should be free from political and ideological approaches. Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, he positively assessed Hungary’s energy cooperation with Türkiye.
