Kazakhstan possesses a significant mineral resource base. According to the state balance sheet, the country has 374 registered gold deposits with total reserves amounting to 2,369 tonnes. In the past year alone, five new deposits containing approximately 98 tonnes of gold reserves were added to the state register.

These figures were announced by Azamat Panbayev, Chairman of the Industry Committee under Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction, during the Astana Mining & Metallurgy 2026 Congress. According to the World Gold Council (WGC), Kazakhstan ranks 14th in the world in terms of gold production volume. In 2025, the country produced 71.2 tonnes of refined gold. Investments in the precious metals mining sector reached 99 billion tenge, representing a 38 percent increase compared to the previous year.

As previously reported, the world’s central banks returned to net gold purchases in April 2026. According to preliminary estimates by the World Gold Council, global gold reserves increased by approximately 17 tonnes. The largest buyers were Poland (14 tonnes), China (8.1 tonnes), and the Czech Republic (2.5 tonnes), while the largest sellers were Russia (6.2 tonnes, according to WGC estimates) and Uzbekistan (1.2 tonnes).
