Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Iran, China, and Turkmenistan have reached a significant agreement on adopting joint tariffs for railway freight transportation. The aim of this agreement is to increase the volume of freight transportation from China to Europe via Central Asia and the Middle East. This development was announced by the analytical information service “AnewZ.”

A high-level meeting was held in Tehran with the participation of representatives from the railway administrations of the six countries. The main focus of the meeting was strengthening the transportation corridor that passes through Central Asia and the Middle East along the “China – Europe” route.

The most important outcome of the discussions was the adoption of competitive and mutually agreed tariffs for railway freight transportation along the "China – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey – Europe" route. The parties also agreed on concrete measures to increase freight volumes and improve service efficiency.

This initiative is expected to make the transportation corridor between East and West an economically attractive and reliable alternative, enhance transport connectivity between Asia and Europe, and contribute to regional economic integration.

According to data from Kazakhstan, in the first four months of 2025, the volume of container freight transported from China to Iran via Kazakhstan increased by 2.6 times compared to the same period last year. This indicates the growing importance of the route in Eurasian trade flows.
