The largest container hub in Kazakhstan has started operating in the city of Aktau, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea. This was reported by the “Sputnik Kazakhstan” news service.
Nurlan Zhakupov, the head of the “Samruk-Kazyna” fund, stated: “Developing transit and transport potential is one of the country’s strategic goals. For over ten years, Kazakhstan’s railway company ‘Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’ (KTZ) and China’s Lianyungang seaport have been cooperating. As a result of this partnership, a joint terminal was established at the Lianyungang port, the land-based ‘Khorgos Gateway’ port was launched, and now a container hub has been opened on the Caspian coast in the city of Aktau. This project marks an important step in the development of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics sector.”
According to the report, the new hub will expand transit opportunities and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a key country along East-West, North-South, and other international routes. The modern logistics infrastructure built within Kazakhstan, using advanced technologies, will significantly accelerate container freight transport.
The project was implemented jointly by Kazakhstan’s national railway company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy,” the “Aktau International Sea Commercial Port,” and China’s major “Lianyungang” port. The main contractor of the project was China’s large state-owned corporation, “China Communications Construction Company” (CCCC).
