The Akim (Mayor) of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, and the CEO of Turkey’s Köksan Holding, Murat Kökoğlu, discussed the construction of a plant for plastic recycling and PET preform production (preparations made from polyethylene terephthalate for bottles and other containers). According to the press service of the Akimat, the enterprise will be located on 15 hectares in Alatau District of Almaty. The total amount of direct foreign investment is estimated at 44 billion tenge.
The new plant is expected to create 138 jobs and produce 80,000 tons of PET preforms and 24,000 tons of recycled plastic per year. As Darkhan Satybaldy noted, developing environmentally friendly industries and modernizing the waste management system are among the top priorities for the city of Almaty.
Darkhan Satybaldy stated: “This project aligns with our sustainable development strategy and will become a key component of the waste recycling ecosystem.”
Following the meeting, relevant instructions were given to Akimat departments to support the investment project. It is worth noting that Köksan Pet Packaging Industry Co. was established in 1968 and is one of the major packaging producers in Turkey and Europe. The company exports its products to more than 100 countries, including well-known brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Danone, and Nestlé.
