In the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, the country's largest greenhouse complex “Alsera kz,” designed to produce 155,000 tons of tomatoes annually, has been launched, reports EastFruit. The investor of the greenhouse is Turkey’s agro-industrial holding Alarko Holding. The opening ceremony was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov, Turkey’s Consul General in Turkistan Levent Gürcan, the Chairman of the Board of Alarko Holding İzzet Garih, and representatives of the Shymkent city administration.

According to Aidarbek Saparov, Turkey is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners in the agro-industrial sector. Currently, 14 joint projects worth a total of $1.1 billion are being implemented in the country together with Turkish investors, the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture reported.

The minister noted that such cooperation opens up significant opportunities for experience exchange, the introduction of new technologies, and the expansion of trade in agricultural products. Joint efforts help strengthen food security and improve the competitiveness of agricultural goods in both Kazakhstan and Turkey. The first tomato harvest has already been collected from the section of the greenhouse that was put into operation earlier.

Construction of the large-scale investment project worth $650 million began in the summer of 2024. The greenhouse complex is capable of producing 155,000 tons of products per year. The total area of the complex is 650 hectares, with construction covering 208 hectares in its first phase.

Overall, an additional 40 hectares of the complex are expected to be commissioned by the end of this year. This will help expand production and increase the supply of fresh vegetables to the domestic market. Once the first phase is fully operational, about 2,000 jobs will be created, and upon completion of the entire project, the number of jobs will reach 5,000.

An important aspect of the project is the establishment of a specialized agro-academic center equipped with a modern laboratory that meets international standards. The center will provide training for qualified specialists in the agricultural sector.
