Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have agreed to jointly construct an underground fiber-optic communication line on the Temirbaba (Kazakhstan) – Bekdash (Turkmenistan) section. The issue was discussed during a meeting between Turkmenistan’s Minister of Communications, Hadjimyrat Khudaigulyev, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Jaslan Madiev, and Vice Minister Doszhan Musaliev.

According to the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the new line will enhance the region’s transit potential, increase the capacity of international communication channels, and create additional digital routes in Central Asia.

During Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to Kazakhstan on November 25, 2025, a memorandum of understanding was signed between “TNS-Plus” (Kazakhstan) and “Turkmentelecom” (Turkmenistan) on the construction of a cross-border cable passage and the integration of backbone networks.

To implement the project, a joint working group will be formed to determine the technical parameters of the line and prepare design and estimate documentation. The main work is planned to be completed within one year.

Fiber-optic technology transmits signals using light pulses through thin fibers made of glass or plastic. Thanks to the principle of total internal reflection, signals are delivered with very low loss, providing high speed and large transmission capacity.
