As part of the implementation of the instruction given by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, efforts to develop tourism and transport connections between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have been intensified, according to the press service of Primeminister.kz.
The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan is launching three new air routes. Starting from December 1 of this year, the airline SCAT will begin operating regular flights on the routes Turkistan – Bukhara, Turkistan – Urgench (Khiva) and Turkistan – Samarkand. Each route will have three flights per week. Ticket sales are open, and the one-way fare is 40,000 tenge.
At the initial stage, the flights will be subsidized to create a stable passenger flow. The opening of these routes aims to promote tourism, increase the visibility of the cities along the Great Silk Road, strengthen regional transport connectivity, and boost the inflow of foreign tourists.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan has developed a new concept for a unified “Silk Road” route in Central Asia. The concept includes the key cities of the region: Almaty, Shymkent, Turkistan, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, as well as shared historical heritage and natural resources.
The first tour to Samarkand has already been launched in cooperation with the tour operator kompastour. Negotiations with other tourism companies are currently underway to develop new tour packages. In 2026, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will explore the possibility of jointly promoting their tourism potential and combining the tourism resources of both countries.
It is worth noting that in August, during a conference of the working group on civil aviation cooperation under the “Central Asia – China (C5+1)” format, the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase the number of regular flights between the two countries.
Since July 3, 2025, the Uzbek airline My Freighter has been operating two weekly flights on the Aktau – Nukus route. Meanwhile, Fly Arystan launched three weekly flights on the Atyrau – Tashkent route starting from July 15, 2025.
