On January 21, Bakay Akbaraliyev, Trade Representative of the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan, held a meeting with the leadership of the Uzcharmsanoat Association. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the leather and footwear industry, the Ministry of Economy’s press service reported.

The key topic of the talks was the potential export of unprocessed and semi-processed leather produced in Kyrgyzstan to the Uzbek market. Representatives of the Uzbek trade association expressed strong interest in Kyrgyz raw materials and stated their readiness to move from discussions to practical steps.

The meeting also addressed the possibility of establishing joint ventures in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, participants highlighted the significant experience of Kyrgyz companies in the field of wool processing. The existing production infrastructure developed in this sector in Kyrgyzstan could be of particular interest to Uzbek businesses.

As a result of the talks, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue in the format of a videoconference with the participation of relevant government agencies and business representatives. These discussions are expected to focus in more detail on opportunities for leather exports, wool processing, and the production of finished goods.
