On February 10 in Ankara, the speakers of the parliaments of Kyrgyzstan and Turkey held a press conference, announcing plans to increase the bilateral trade volume between the two countries to 5 billion US dollars.

During his official visit, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of Kyrgyzstan, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, met with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, to discuss strengthening political and economic ties between the two countries. The parties placed special emphasis on the swift ratification of agreements signed by the leaders of both countries last year.

Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu noted that the close relations between Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have opened a new chapter in interstate relations. He also invited Turkish athletes to participate in the 6th World Nomad Games, which will be held in Kyrgyzstan in 2026.

The Turkish side expressed its readiness to support Kyrgyzstan on the international stage. Numan Kurtulmuş stated that Turkey would support Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.

To achieve the $5 billion trade target, the parties plan to revitalize the activities of parliamentary friendship groups. According to the speakers, parliamentary diplomacy should serve as a key pillar of partnership and help businesses and investors implement joint projects. The meeting also expressed intentions to develop cooperation not only in trade, but also in scientific research, education, and culture.
