Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Transport and Communications Absattar Syrgabayev and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov held a meeting in Istanbul on February 11, according to the ministry’s press service.
The talks took place on the sidelines of the second meeting of transport authorities’ heads from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The main topic of discussion was the implementation of the “China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan” railway construction project. The ministers exchanged information on the current stage of work and emphasized the need to remove barriers that hinder the full use of the transit potential of the two countries.
The meeting agenda also included logistics issues in the southern direction. The parties reviewed conditions for cargo transportation to Pakistan through the territory of Kyrgyzstan and discussed visa issuance for Uzbek drivers. As a result of the talks, the sides agreed to promptly resolve problematic issues in the transport sector and strengthen cooperation.
