Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan held the first round of negotiations on a draft intergovernmental agreement for the implementation of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP project. This was reported by The Caspian Post.

The high-level delegations were led by Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Rysbekov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Sungat Yesimkhanov, and Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Umid Mamadaminov. Representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies of the participating countries also took part in the negotiations.

The Kambar-Ata-1 Hydropower Plant, to be built on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan, is designed to generate 1,880 MW of electricity. The commissioning of such a large facility will help address the electricity shortage in Central Asia and facilitate the joint management of water resources.

Currently, representatives of the ministries are working on the legal and organizational aspects of jointly managing the future power plant. According to the participants of the meeting, the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP will serve as a foundation for providing sustainable energy to the Central Asian region for decades to come.
