Kyrgyzstan plans to increase electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES) and small hydropower plants (HPPs) to 1.2–1.5 billion kilowatt-hours in 2026. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Nasipbek Kerimov at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport, Fuel and Energy Complex, Architecture, and Construction.

According to him, systematic efforts are being carried out in the country to develop green energy. In 2025, eight small hydropower plants were commissioned in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, a 100 MW solar power plant was launched in the Kemin district.

According to the information provided, in 2026 the company “Bishkek Solar” is constructing a 300 MW solar power plant. At the first stage, it is planned to generate 100 MW of electricity by August. Moreover, investors aim to build large-scale solar power plants with a total capacity of up to 1,900 MW. Specifically, 150 MW is expected to be generated in May, and an additional 450 MW by the end of the year.

It was also noted that there are other investors interested in the green energy sector. Currently, Kyrgyzstan produces an average of 15.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, of which 450–500 million kilowatt-hours come from renewable sources. The country aims to increase this figure to 1.2–1.5 billion kilowatt-hours by 2026.
