On June 23, 2026, the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan was held in Cholpon-Ata. The meeting was co-chaired by Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov. At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed the relevant protocol.
Participants highlighted the steady expansion of political and trade-economic cooperation between the two countries, the active implementation of joint projects in investment, energy, and cultural-humanitarian fields, as well as the continued development of interregional cooperation.
Adylbek Kasymaliev emphasized the steady growth in bilateral trade, noting that trade turnover exceeded US$1 billion in 2025, representing a 19% increase compared to 2024, while doubling over the past five years. The two sides set a goal of increasing bilateral trade to US$2 billion by 2030.
The Kyrgyz side proposed placing greater emphasis on expanding industrial cooperation through the establishment of joint industrial parks and logistics centers, as well as developing state support mechanisms for such projects. It also proposed creating a joint interagency working group to prepare a program for agro-industrial cooperation through 2030. In addition, the parties discussed revitalizing the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Development Fund and increasing its authorized capital.
Transport and energy cooperation occupied a central place on the agenda. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Project, envisioned as a modern Silk Road of the 21st century. They also confirmed their readiness to continue coordination on the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1.
Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov stated that the talks were focused on implementing concrete projects that serve the interests of both nations, adding that Uzbekistan is fully prepared to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
