On September 7, 2025, a meeting on regional energy cooperation was held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. During this meeting, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan signed a protocol on electricity supply for the autumn-winter season of 2025–2026.
According to the document, the parties undertook commitments to preserve water resources in Kyrgyzstan’s Toktogul Reservoir and to compensate for Kyrgyzstan’s electricity shortage through supplies from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
At the same time, the conditions for transiting electricity from Russia to Kyrgyzstan through Kazakhstan’s energy system, as well as from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan, were agreed upon.
Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev, emphasized that close cooperation with neighboring countries is directly linked to energy stability in the region. Minister Ibraev noted: “Through our joint efforts, we will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to our people and strengthen energy security and stability.”
