President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov proposed a number of measures aimed at deepening economic integration among Central Asian countries. He stated this in his speech at the Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Tashkent.
According to him, last year the volume of direct foreign investment from Central Asian countries into Kyrgyzstan’s economy increased by 15% compared to the previous year, reaching 135 million USD. Over the past three years, the trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian states has grown by 28%. From January to August of this year, mutual trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian countries amounted to 1.7 billion USD, which is 14% higher than in the same period last year, the president noted.
To further deepen real integration, he proposed focusing on three key directions:
First: Actively eliminating barriers in mutual trade and harmonizing standards and technical regulations.
Second: Moving away from the raw-material model by developing joint production chains through the establishment of processing industries and new industrial clusters.
Third: Using digitalization as a driving factor for development — from e-commerce to the creation of cross-border platforms for data exchange and strengthening cybersecurity.
Sadyr Japarov also emphasized the particular importance of developing transport infrastructure in the region.
He stated: “The construction of the strategically important China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway will not only connect our countries but will fundamentally transform logistics and open the shortest route to major markets in Asia and Europe. In this context, the construction of the Zangezur Corridor serves as the logical and strategic continuation of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway.”
