The Ministers of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye held a bilateral meeting in Istanbul, where they discussed expanding cooperation and implementing major energy projects, the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan reported.
During the meeting, the key areas of partnership were reviewed, including discussions on Kyrgyzstan’s participation in the “Central Asia – Azerbaijan (Caspian) Green Energy Corridor” initiative being implemented by member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
Plans to establish a regional center for technologies and green initiatives in Kyrgyzstan were also discussed, along with advancing the construction projects of the “Suusamyr–Kokomerен” and “Kazarman” hydropower plants (HPPs), which have a total installed capacity of 1,305 MW and the potential to generate 3.317 billion kWh of electricity annually.
Minister of Energy Taalaybek Ibraev noted that Kyrgyzstan has significant potential in green energy sources, including hydropower, solar, wind, and bioenergy. He also addressed the quality of Kyrgyz coal and proposed exploring opportunities for cooperation with Türkiye in the coal sector.
Türkiye’s Minister of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, expressed interest in studying these areas, noting that he had previously not been aware of the high quality of Kyrgyz coal. He stated that Türkiye is ready to consider cooperation opportunities provided that logistics are competitive and economically viable.
