A meeting was held in the city of Bukhara between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the talks, the parties discussed current issues related to the further development of Uzbek-Kazakh relations based on friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the practical implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan in November of last year. It was emphasized that intergovernmental relations are actively developing at all levels, including intergovernmental and interparliamentary formats.
The growth in trade turnover between the two countries was noted, reaching 5 billion US dollars according to last year’s results. It was also highlighted that cooperative projects in the fields of automotive industry, infrastructure, logistics, electrical engineering, and construction materials production are being successfully implemented.
A number of new initiatives aimed at developing cooperation in the chemical industry, geology, energy, automotive components manufacturing, and other areas were considered. The parties discussed accelerating the implementation of major regional projects, including the construction of the Kambarata Hydropower Plant in Kyrgyzstan, as well as initiatives related to the export of green energy.
Issues of rational use of water resources and the promotion of environmental initiatives in the region were also addressed, including “Clean Air” projects in border areas. An agreement was reached to enhance cultural and humanitarian exchanges, including organizing cultural days and youth forums, as well as developing cooperation in the creative economy and tourism sectors.
The heads of state also exchanged views on issues on the international and regional agenda. During the meeting, deputy prime ministers provided information on measures being taken to increase bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion US dollars in the near future. As a result of the talks, the governments of both countries were instructed to develop and approve a “roadmap” for the implementation of the agreements reached.
