Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have agreed to organize joint events in third countries to promote the tourism potential of both countries and increase mutual tourist flows. According to Vesti.az, the agreement was reached during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Rəşad Məmmədov and Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Akkulov.
The meeting discussed ways to increase mutual tourist flows, more actively promote the tourism opportunities of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, and develop direct contacts between representatives of the tourism sectors. In particular, the sides agreed to establish direct dialogue and strengthen cooperation between the relevant tourism organizations of the two countries.
The meeting also reviewed the results of previously implemented joint projects. In October 2025, the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan and the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan organized joint roadshows for tourism industry representatives in several European cities as part of the “Highlights of the Silk Road” project.
To continue this experience, the sides agreed to organize new joint roadshows in four European countries in October this year.
In addition, reciprocal promotional tours are planned for tour operators, media representatives and bloggers from Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, as well as B2B meetings between representatives of the private sectors of the two countries.
Rəşad Məmmədov provided information on efforts to develop ski and health tourism in Azerbaijan. The ambassador spoke about plans to develop the Kalbajar region as one of the promising destinations for ski tourism, as well as sanatoriums and hotels focused on health tourism in Naftalan.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan and Ambassador Rəşad Məmmədov were invited to the Tashkent International Tourism Fair, to be held on 25–27 November, as well as to the opening ceremony of the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism — 2027” event, which will be held as part of the fair in cooperation with UN Tourism.
