Uzbekistan is considering the creation of a free trade and industrial zone on the border with Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a working meeting on the development of the Andijan region, held with the participation of heads of relevant ministries and regional administrations.

According to the head of state, the annual volume of exports from Andijan to Kyrgyzstan amounts to $200 million, and the potential for bilateral trade remains significant. In this regard, the task has been set to explore the possibility of establishing a free economic zone in one of the two border districts — Kurgantepa or Khodjaabad.

"Responsible officials have been instructed to work together with entrepreneurs to select a location and develop a master plan for the project," the official statement from the presidential press service says.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also paid special attention to the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project. According to the Uzbek leader, the route will reduce cargo delivery distance by 1,000 kilometers and delivery time by one week, while the volume of transportation is expected to increase tenfold.

As a result of the meeting, relevant agencies have been instructed to carry out comprehensive calculations and submit an action plan for infrastructure modernization.
