Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have expressed interest in developing “green” energy and are ready to cooperate in this field. This was stated by Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Gurbannammet Elyasov, in an interview with the Report agency.
According to the diplomat, the two countries are exploring opportunities to expand the use of renewable energy sources. One of the areas under discussion is Turkmenistan’s plan to participate in the creation of “green” energy corridors across the Caspian Sea.
Such steps require the development of infrastructure to deliver electricity generated from renewable green sources to Europe via the South Caucasus. In this context, Azerbaijan is considered a transit country for the export of “green” energy.
As Elyasov noted, the development of projects in solar and wind energy is a promising direction. Turkmenistan has significant potential for solar energy production, while Azerbaijan has strong capabilities in generating “green” electricity from wind.
At the same time, Azerbaijan is actively developing wind energy production in the waters of the Caspian Sea. In addition, the development of joint infrastructure for the transmission and export of “green” electricity is considered an important area.
Elyasov stated: “This may include the construction of underwater cable lines across the Caspian Sea, the integration of energy systems, and participation in regional projects for exporting electricity to Europe.”
He also added that additional opportunities for cooperation are emerging in areas such as the production and transportation of “green” hydrogen, the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, the exchange of experience in renewable energy development, and attracting investments.
