On Tuesday, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the Baku International Sea Trade Port for the “Gadamly,” the first cargo vessel built in Turkmenistan. According to Turkmenistan’s state media, the dry cargo ship, with a carrying capacity of 6,100 tons, is designed to transport 240 twenty-foot containers.
The vessel will operate regular routes between the Turkmenbashi Port and the Baku International Sea Trade Port, helping accelerate cargo flows across the Caspian Sea and improve the efficiency of logistics chains. Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow attended the ceremony marking the ship’s departure on its maiden voyage on May 8.
During the welcoming ceremony in Baku, government officials and diplomatic representatives emphasized that the commissioning of the new vessel would provide additional momentum to the development of the Middle Corridor and the Eurasian transport route. The construction and commissioning of its own cargo vessel is considered an important part of Turkmenistan’s policy aimed at expanding its transport capabilities and developing international corridors linking East and West.
