Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have officially opened the “Shavat–Dashoguz” joint border trade zone, aimed at strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and increasing cross-border trade. The six-hectare area is divided equally between the two countries, with three hectares designated for Uzbek goods and three for Turkmen goods.
The modern facility includes a large enclosed pavilion with 112 trading stalls, 28 specialized shops, and 16 additional retail points. Goods produced in Uzbekistan will be supplied to Turkmenistan and vice versa, supporting entrepreneurship and boosting bilateral trade.
The zone operates under a simplified trade regime, featuring advanced technical equipment and a modern customs post that ensures faster and more transparent border procedures. Citizens of both countries can enter the trade zone without a visa, enhancing people-to-people contact and regional cooperation.
Infrastructure includes warehouses, container areas, trade halls, banking and exchange services, hotels, and medical points. A “One-Stop Service” center provides customs, tax, and certification support to ease business operations.
Construction of the trade zone began in October 2022. Today, it is viewed as a strategic platform for increasing trade turnover, promoting national products, and creating new opportunities for economic growth in both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
